Senaman Tua 10am 6 Fridays from 6th Nov

Ancient Malay Exercise • Movement • Breath • Mindfulness

What if movement could help you feel more connected to your body, calmer in your mind, and more grounded in yourself?

Step into the fascinating world of Senaman Tua aka Ancient Malay Exercise, a traditional movement practice rooted in Malay culture and wisdom. Whether you’re completely new to exercise, looking for a gentler way to move, or already active and want to explore something completely different, this introductory series offers a unique opportunity to move, breathe, learn and reconnect.

Discover an ancient practice

Senaman Tua brings together elements of Malay breathing techniques, stretching, Silat-inspired movements and traditional Malay dance, creating a flowing practice that encourages mobility, balance, coordination, body awareness and calm. Alongside the physical movements, we explore mindfulness and meditation creating space to slow down, become more conscious of the body and breath, and reconnect with yourself. It’s not about how flexible, strong or “fit” you are. It’s about where you are now and learning to move from there.

More than exercise

This is an invitation to discover a different relationship with movement. You may notice greater awareness of your posture and breathing, explore ways of moving with more ease, and develop a deeper appreciation for the remarkable body you live in.

Senaman Tua can be adapted to different abilities and experience levels, making it accessible for beginners while offering depth for those who already have an established fitness or movement practice. And there is something else at the heart of this practice: presence.

Through mindful movement and meditation, we explore what happens when we become genuinely attentive to our breath, sensations, thoughts and surroundings. A chance to pause. To centre. To breathe. To come back to yourself.

Culture, stories & curiosity

This course isn't simply about learning a series of exercises. It is also an opportunity to learn about Malay culture and the origins and philosophy surrounding Senaman Tua, hear stories from its tradition, meet your facilitator and ask those questions you've been curious about. Then, of course, you get to experience it for yourself.
